First Things First

The first thing on the list was to get the frame lengthened and the chassis and drive train up to snuff. I went and saw my friend Dennis Frankforth at Truck Specialists and asked him if he could do it. He was a bit hesitant, until I told him that money wasn’t going to be a problem and gave him a cheque for $5000 as a sign of good faith.

Next, I needed a chunk of frame rails. The truck had an aluminum frame, which was common when it was built, but not too common anymore. As fate would have it, I was hauling potatoes from Spetifor’s Farms in Delta, and as I circled around the barn, there it was poking out from under some blackberry bushes, an old aluminum frame. I asked Mr. Spetifor how much he wanted for it and he said, “It’s yours, just take it all.” It was an exact match.

So, with the plates from my pick up on the old Kenworth, I drove back the next day and loaded the frame up. I just chained it to my trucks frame and drove back to Dennis’ shop. I think the statute of limitations is over, so I’m not too worried about getting a ticket anymore….
