As I was driving beside a high tension powerline one evening, it dawned on me, our entire civilization is hanging by a thread.
Entire cities have their electrical power supplied through these fragile threads called wires. Never mind an EMP pulse or a solar flare, all it would take to bring our civilization to a grinding halt is for the threads to be cut!
For the record, I’m not a conspiracy theorist. I’m a “Things aren’t adding up and it’s pretty freaking obvious”, theorist.
Why are we all so interested in preparing? Probably because we can see that it won’t take much for us to be thrown into the dark ages. As the world gets more and more insane, there’s going to be a few of us who are ready. But there’s still a lot of questions surrounding it all.
What will happen after “The Big One”?
What’s going to be the cause of it?
Who will I be able to trust?
Do I have enough ammo?
Where am I going to get my next meal?
And a million other questions like them!
I’ve never considered myself as a “Prepper”. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even choose to live off the grid, it sort of chose me through circumstances where I found myself living in the middle of nowhere, cut off from “civilization” with no electricity or communication with the outside world. Sure I could have gone back, but the challenge, and the direction that God was leading me in, made that impossible.
So, it became my life to simply learn as much as I could to survive in the wilderness. One thing that became abundantly clear was that we don’t know what our forefathers knew by osmosis! There’s been a huge disconnect between generations, with reams of valuable knowledge lost. How to germinate a seed. When to plant it. Where to plant it. How to nurture it. How to keep it alive. Why did it die? I’m hungry now. The ignorance can be overwhelming and scary.
So here’s to everyone who’s on this journey to self sufficiency.
