My dad shortly before he passed away from pancreatic cancer.
Sorry for the two lower pictures being bad but they went through a fire and by a miracle, they survived…
It took a year, but when my one of a kind Kenworth motorhome rolled out of the shop it blew me away. It still needed a few tweaks but it was basically finished. The next thing to do was get it registered as a motorhome.
With a temporary permit taped to the windshield, I went to the local DMV. There was line up that went outside the door and I stood in line for an hour or more. When I finally got to the wicket, I explained that I wanted to register my motorhome and the nice lady entered the info. We quickly found out that we couldn’t register it as an RV, only a commercial vehicle. She asked me if it was really a motorhome and I said, “It’s right outside if you want to look.” She closed her wicket and followed me out to the motorhome.
As we were walking up to it she asked if it “came apart”, to which I replied, “No, it’s all one unit.” As she walked around it she kept saying how beautiful it was, and then I took her inside. She was impressed to say the least. Convinced that it was indeed an RV, we went back inside. She called ICBC and explained. Of course I only heard her side of the conversation.
“Yes, it’s a motorhome. No, it doesn’t come apart. Yes, it’s all one unit. As a matter of fact, it beautiful!” She hung up and told me to be patient while they created a new designation in their system. Then she told all of her coworkers that they had to see this thing! With the line up still as long as before, they all closed their wickets and came outside for the big tour. I’m sure there were a few ticked off folks in the line.
They all came and had a good look, giving me lots of compliments and oooing and awing. We went back into the DMV and waited for ICBC to call back, which they did about half an hour later. They had created a new classification for trucks converted into RV’s, and my rig was the very first one registered in BC.
Now, I had to sell it!
