An Angel I Wasn’t Looking For

Like I said in my last post, the shock of what I thought was happening got to me. I had to sit down and contemplate the conversation I’d just had with Anne. Did what she said mean what I thought it did? Was I just imagining it? Was I losing my mind? All these thoughts, and more, raced through my mind.

But, she did say to put some numbers on paper, so I did. It was basically the same things I told her. Plus, I drew a sketch of what the 53 Freightliner would look like as a motorhome and stuffed it in the file folder. I don’t think I slept a wink that night.

The next day was like a dream. I wandered around my old truck collection trying to decide which one would make the best candidate for becoming an RV. Then I saw it. My buddy from the antique truck club was storing a couple of his trucks there, and one of them was perfect. A 1963 Kenworth 923. It was in pretty good condition considering its age, and with the built in fuel tanks under the cab, it would just “flow” into the design.

Again, I had lots of pictures that were lost in the fire, so the best I can do is provide a picture of its sister truck that was at Expo 86 in Vancouver. (I have no idea who the kid is)

Soon enough the afternoon came and I walked to Anne’s house, knocked on the door and she invited me in. When she said she liked antiques she wasn’t kidding! She had furniture that was hundreds of years old, and all of it worth a small fortune. Paintings, sculptures and all kinds of rare and interesting things. I had no idea.

We went upstairs and she offered me a cup of tea, of course. From her bay window, I could see my ugly old Freightliner peeking through the dead hedge, and clearly understood why it might have upset her. But once the pleasantries were done she got right down to business.

“Are you absolutely sure of these numbers? Do you have a truck in mind yet? How much do you think it will cost? How much can you sell it for? Have you ever formed a corporation?” I did my best to answer her as honestly as I could, but let’s face it, it was all speculation on my part. She seemed satisfied with my answers and stated, “Well, I suppose we’ll need a bank account for the business. Have you thought of a name for the company yet?” My head was spinning! Was this really happening?

Oh yeah, it was.
